The salary of a paramedic in Quebec, or primary care paramedic, ranges from $26.34 to $39.40 an hour at Urgences-santé (the ambulance service for Montreal and Laval), according to the rate the employer posts as of April 1, 2023. The rate posted by Urgences-santé

The Corporation d'urgences-santé is the public body that serves Montreal and Laval. Its careers page states that the hourly wage of primary care paramedics ranges from $26.34 to $39.40 as of April 1, 2023, plus benefits and the pension plan.

It is the only employer rate readable in an official source on October 10, 2026. The page gives neither the number of steps, nor the rate at each step, nor how long one stays at a step. We found no complete pay scale in any official source. This article therefore does not publish a table by step.

An agreement in principle in July 2026

The posted rate dates from April 1, 2023. On July 26, 2026, the Government of Quebec announced an agreement in principle with the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux to renew the collective agreements in the pre-hospital emergency sector. The press release states that the agreement covers 3,500 primary care paramedics across Quebec, including more than 1,000 at Urgences-santé.

The press release gives no rate. It states that the details remain confidential until the members vote. The new rates appeared in no official source on October 10, 2026.

Québec.ca publishes different figures for the same group: $26.30 minimum, $33.60 median and $40.00 maximum. The profile states that this hourly wage is the average of wages from 2023 to 2025.

Urgences-santé and ambulance companies

Outside Montreal and Laval, paramedics work for permit-holding companies and co-operatives. No official source consulted publishes their rates. The agreement in principle of July 26, 2026 covers both Urgences-santé paramedics and paramedics in the rest of Quebec.

On-call schedules

The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), Quebec's health ministry, describes two types of schedules in its Planification de la main-d'œuvre des techniciens ambulanciers paramédics 2024-2033. On an hourly schedule, the paramedic works a shift that usually lasts 8, 10 or 12 hours, on a 14-day cycle. On an on-call schedule, the paramedic is on standby and ready to answer an assignment, without necessarily waiting in the ambulance.

The same document puts a number on the gap. A paramedic on an on-call schedule delivers an average of 2,365 hours of service per year, compared with 1,147 hours for a paramedic on an hourly schedule. On-call schedules accounted for 21% of the hours authorized by the Ministère in 2022-2023 and are more common in rural areas. The document does not say how these on-call hours are paid.

Premiums and overtime

The Urgences-santé careers page mentions no premium. No official source consulted gives the amount of premiums or the overtime rate for paramedics. These rules are in each employer's collective agreement. Ask the employer for them before accepting a position.
