CETAM: the co-operative's territory in Montérégie and its jobs

The Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie: its six zones according to Santé Québec, the legal framework and the conditions to be hired there as a paramedic.

· Lire en français

The CETAM is the Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (the Montérégie paramedics' co-operative). It offers paramedic jobs in six ambulance zones of Montérégie, according to the official table from Santé Québec. This profile explains what it is, where it works and what it takes to get hired there. This text applies to women and men alike. It is neither an advertisement nor a recommendation.

What the CETAM is

The full name appears on the home page of its website: Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CETAM). It states there that it was founded in 1988. It presents itself as a co-operative in which all workers are members, on the principle of one member, one vote. The members elect the board of directors.

Santé Québec lists it under the same corporate name in the table of ambulance companies and co-operatives it released on September 14, 2026.

A worker co-operative, under the law

Section 222 of the Cooperatives Act (chapter C-67.2), up to date as of August 12, 2026, defines the worker co-operative. It brings together only natural persons who associate, as workers, to operate an enterprise, and its object is to provide work to its members and auxiliary members.

Section 224.2 of the same Act allows the co-operative, by by-law, to subject any worker to a probation period of no more than 250 working days. During that period, the worker is an auxiliary member.

The CETAM's six zones in Montérégie

The Santé Québec table has three columns: the health region, the corporate name and the zone. It answers an access request that covered companies and co-operatives holding a contract or an exclusive service area. The Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie takes up six lines, all in region 16, Montérégie.

The CETAM is not the only employer in the region. The same table lists in Montérégie Ambulances Demers inc., Dessercom inc., HRH Services préhospitaliers Inc., Les Ambulances Michel Crevier Inc. and Les services préhospitaliers Paraxion inc., each for other zones. Santé Québec states in its letter that the territorial limits of the zones are unchanged.

The permit and the service contract

The Act respecting pre-hospital emergency services (chapter S-6.2), up to date as of August 12, 2026, governs all ambulance services, co-operative or not. Section 46 sets two conditions to operate one: hold an operating permit issued by Santé Québec or by a regional body, and have entered into the section 9 contract with it.

  • Section 9: the service contract lasts five years and the permit holder undertakes to provide the agreed services according to the authorized schedules
  • Section 47: the permit is issued to a natural person or a legal person and states the region or zone of operation, as well as the number of ambulances
  • Section 51: the permit is issued for a maximum period of 48 months ending on a March 31

Section 47 says the permit holder operates its service in its zone "mainly but not exclusively".

The conditions to get hired

Section 63 of Act S-6.2 sets the conditions to work as a paramedic, at the CETAM as anywhere else:

  • have completed the recognized initial college training and passed the related exam, or hold training recognized as equivalent by the national medical director
  • be listed in the national workforce registry kept by Santé Québec
  • have obtained a paramedic status card

The CETAM posts its own requirements on the page for its primary care paramedic position, consulted on October 10, 2026. It asks for a DEC in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care, obtained or in progress. It asks that you have passed the Programme national d'intégration clinique (the national clinical integration program) or be about to enrol in it, for listing in the national registry. Finally, it asks for a valid Class 4A driver's licence, with a maximum number of demerit points on record.

Our articles Becoming a paramedic and the Class 4A licence detail these steps.

Where to apply

The co-operative's career page is at cetam.ca/postuler/carriere. It leads to the paramedic position and to a section on observation internships. The position page gives an email address for sending your application.

On October 10, 2026, this page names no other job to fill. It shows no wage rate.

Wages in the region

Since the CETAM posts no rate, the official benchmark is the median wage from the Government of Canada's Job Bank for paramedical occupations (NOC 32102). These wages were updated on November 19, 2025.
